The Retreat

On the week-long retreat, Aloha Girls, you will come to know your own interconnectedness with others, with nature, and with your own intuitive knowing.  The breathtaking natural beauty of Maui and the welcoming aloha spirit is the foundation of this personal journey. Morning yoga and bodywork anchor you into the wisdom of your own body, and daily tango workshops develop and strengthen your leading skills. The entire week supports you in the grand balancing act of life itself, as you choose to create it.

Brigitta Winkler and Sharna Fabiano are your skillful, enthusiastic guides on this journey. Each carrying deep knowledge and appreciation for tango's cultural history, they are also spirited innovators. Integrating a wide variety of physical disciplines into their teaching and into their performance work, they approach tango as a collaborative process of discovery. Aloha Girls is a synergy of their unique explorations, and nowhere else will you have the opportunity to study with both of them at the same time, and in such a focused, personal way. This retreat is simultaneously a rigorous educational program, a creative journey, and a gathering of kindred spirits.

Our Venue

The Banyan Tree Retreat Center is located in a quiet, rural upcountry Maui setting, a unique blend of old time Hawaii with pineapple fields, sprawling cattle ranches, breath taking ocean and island views. This unique venue offers us three private gathering spaces for movement and reflection: a pristine yoga and movement studio, the large central room of the Plantation House with a gorgeous wood floor for dancing, and the spacious lanai (patio) overlooking the grounds full of couches and chairs for more intimate meetings.

Large banyan, monkeypod and jacaranda trees create a peaceful, shady oasis amidst the many fruit trees, flowers and sunny, wide open lawns. Swings and hammocks hang from the trees offering comfortable private places around the property, as well as a swimming pool and jacuzzi. During your free time, you might like to take a short walk to the town of Makawao, and explore local art galleries, health stores, spas, and boutiques.

From our base at the Banyan, we are well positioned for excursions to experience all of Maui's micro-climates, from the mountains to the beaches! Our retreat chef, Cindi Nand, prepares healthy and delicious meals for us everyday including ample vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options. A skilled massage therapist provides afternoon bodywork sessions for an additional cost.
